Self-Portraits

Flipping through the pages of magazines for inspiration for my next set of concentration photos, I came across a style that I was deeply drawn to. A human shaped figure with a snowy mountain embedded into his head and body. There was an unfathomable sense of mystery that clouded the figure. The double exposure created a surreal and visually mesmerizing second identity for the figure, to show that the person might have deep buried emotions inside. Artist Matt Wisniewski never ceases to unsettle and challenge me. I was so inspired by the image that I wanted to created something myself. The title of the image, "Niagara," stuck with me. I imagined the roaring waters of the Niagara Falls flowing seamlessly with my hair, cleansing me of worries. That, was just the beginning of a very long experiment. I had the great opportunity to study and develop a set of self-portraits, which we called the 50 Self Portraits. I began to experiment with masks and overlaying techniques on Adobe Photoshop, and overlaid images to create a digital art work that had personal connection to myself. I used images that resembled somewhat my characteristics or my feelings inside me.
